About

I am Zack Williams

Comfortable owning ambiguous problems and turning complex systems into product progress.

I am a full-stack engineer with experience building production applications across frontend, backend, and protocol-integrated systems. My work has included React Native applications, market-making tools across frontend/backend/CLI surfaces, Rails SaaS features, Elixir A/B testing, and automated test coverage for critical user flows.

I care about clear communication, low-ego collaboration, and software that stays understandable as the product grows.

Favorite tools and domains:

  • TypeScript
  • React Native
  • NestJS
  • PostgreSQL
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Elixir
  • Starknet
  • Cypress and RSpec

Proof of Ownership

React Native | Blockchain-backed state | Tutorial ownership | Product launch

POW! tutorial and mobile product features at StarkWare

I built and shipped user-facing React Native features for POW!, a protocol-integrated StarkWare product where app state, wallet flows, and backend behavior needed to stay understandable to users. The work supported a launch that reached 322 users in the first two weeks.

My largest owned contribution was the tutorial experience. I took the feature through implementation and launch, shaping a flow that introduced the product, guided users through wallet and protocol interactions, and kept state changes clear without exposing unnecessary complexity.

Source code remains private; POW! is described here at a public, product-level scope.

NestJS | PostgreSQL | Prisma | Real-time market data

Trading and market-making tooling

I helped build trading and market-making tools across frontend, backend, and CLI surfaces. The systems separated market data ingestion, strategy logic, execution workflows, and operational visibility so the team could reason about fast-moving behavior without turning every change into a risky rewrite.

The hard parts were integration boundaries, real-time data handling, and keeping automation observable enough for humans to intervene. I contributed product surfaces, backend workflows, and architecture cleanup that made the tooling easier to extend.

Architecture details are intentionally generalized to avoid exposing private trading systems.

TypeScript | React Native | Cairo | Starknet

Ultimate Tic Tac Toe on Starknet

I built a public game project that pairs an Expo/React Native app with Cairo smart contracts, deployment scripts, wallet integration, wager escrow logic, and tests across the app and contract layers.

The project shows how I structure a multi-surface codebase, document local setup, test game and wager rules, and keep app behavior aligned with on-chain constraints. Next improvements are a recruiter-friendly README overview, screenshots, and clearer demo instructions.

How I Work

Own the ambiguous work

I like taking unclear requirements and complex data flows from shape-of-the-problem through implementation, architecture, and shipped product behavior.

Build with the team

Pairing, asking good questions, teaching, and sharing context have been some of the fastest ways I have grown and helped teams move together.

Keep users in view

Years in hospitality still shape how I work: stay calm under pressure, understand what people need, communicate clearly, and make the experience useful.

Balance speed and craft

I use AI tools as part of a reviewed engineering workflow: useful for exploration, debugging, and acceleration, but always grounded in tests, code review, and maintainable design.

Experience

Recent Work

Exploration Software Engineer

StarkWare | Remote | 08/2024 - 04/2026

  • Built and shipped user-facing React Native features with blockchain-backed state, helping support 322 users within the first two weeks of launch.
  • Contributed to Starknet onboarding and smart contract functionality for an African business integration reaching 230K users.
  • Helped build market-making and trading tooling across frontend, backend, and CLI surfaces using NestJS, PostgreSQL, Prisma, and real-time market data integrations.

Technical Coach

Flatiron School | Remote | 2024

  • Provided live technical support to incoming students, helping them unblock setup issues, debug, and build confidence before day one.

Product Engineer

Statype | Remote | 05/2023 - 08/2023

  • Resolved a SAML role bug by triaging root causes and adding test coverage, improving reliability in a core authentication flow.
  • Built reusable UI components adopted across the application, improving consistency and reducing duplication for the broader engineering team.

Software Engineer

LocaliQ at Gannett | Remote | 01/2022 - 01/2023

  • Built an A/B testing system in Elixir that identified a signup path performing 99% better than the alternative.
  • Led Cypress end-to-end testing work to improve release confidence for critical user flows.
